National CAD Standards (NCS)
AEC has adopted the National CAD Standards in order to provide a more consistant format for it's plan production. Ultimately, a more streamlined set of drafting, design and file convention standards allows AEC to more efficiently provide it's clients with a consistant organization of data and greater clarity of communication. Additional benefits to the clients and owners are enhanced data management and potential for automated document storage as well as a streamlined construction document checking process.
NCS is a valuable asset to AEC's design services because it reduces file formatting and setup time, streamlines the checking process for errors and omissions and provides for predictable file translation and communication with other engineers, architects and other design professionals.
Webster Dictionary defines Civil Engineer as:
Civil Engineer (n): an engineer whose training or occupation is in the design and construction especially of public works (as roads or harbors).
This very basic definition does not fully detail what civil engineers do. In fact, considering all we do, a fully comprehensive definition would be difficult to put into one or two sentences.
Civil Engineering designs are necessary whenever land development or infrastructure improvements are planned with a particular project. Often, the civil engineering portion of a project goes unseen, but is fundamentally essential (ie. grading, sewer, water, storm drains). These items are arguably the more important components of a successful project, but, unfortunately, often remain an afterthought. Within the land development area, civil engineers design roads, parks, housing developments, parking lots, building pads, etc.
From an overall project perspective, the civil design can mean the difference between a successful project and one that's unnecessarily difficult and expensive. Too often, civil engineering consultants are hired well after the project planning has begun. This can lead to a great deal of backtracking to resolve unforseen issues.
Every successful project begins with early and carefull planning and is built on solid civil designs. Take the first steps of your project correctly to avoid backtracking in the future... hire your engineer first!
Don't hesitate. With our vast experience in civil designs, survey and construction, please contact AEC Engineering with any questions you might have about your project.
